Norte de Havana

NORTE DE HAVANA

Norte de Havana plays traditional Mexican, Brazilian, & Cuban dance music with an energy that comes from the member’s varied backgrounds. Norte de Havana was formed in 1999 in Texas as a side project for a group of like-minded musicians who shared a love of Latin music and wanted an outlet to play it. What started out as a one-month house gig at a local bar continues today even as various members have moved away from the band’s home base.

Norte de Havana was formed primarily by members of Grammy award winning Brave Combo and members of Texas Latin music mainstays The Latin Pimps. The Norte sound has put the group in great demand for private parties as well as live music venues. They have landed numerous awards including multiple nominations for best Latin group by the Dallas Observer.

Norte de Havana

"a melting pot of music ranging from popular Mexican styles to a Brazilian influence to traditional Cuban." The sound is traditional yet progessive from the various styles of music that continue to influence the band's members."

"...the music is more than merely palatable -- somewhere between Gypsy Kings, Calexico, and Buena Vista Social Club -- it's mainstream enough for a casual listener but has interesting musical twists for the discerning ear. This full-on Latin band succeeds in traditional Latin rhythms with lovely horn melodies over strumming guitars and Robert Gomez's Tecate-soaked vocals..."

Norte de Havana

The band has a core of six players but easily expands up to fourteen.
"We prefer to bring the full band though we have found that even at our minimum of musicians the music easily lends itself to a great party and dance atmosphere."
